Penn State Public Health Day 

Exploring the Relationship between
Public Health and Law


Eligibility:  Individuals from private, non-profit or governmental organizations conducting public health-related projects and/or research. Students (undergraduate, medical, nursing, law, and graduate), faculty, and staff from Penn State, as well as regional colleges and universities, are encouraged to submit abstracts. 


Content: Abstracts addressing public health research (including public health law and policy-related research), community programs, and other public health projects will be considered.  Preference will be given to topics related to public health law, particularly in the areas of Population Health, Global Public Health, and Mental Health/Substance Abuse.  Conference proceedings for presentations related to public health law and policy research may be submitted for publication.


Format: Abstracts should be structured and include the following:
  1. Title
  2. List of Authors (including names, degrees, department/institution, and email address for the presenting author)
  3. Background or Significance of the Issue
  4. Purpose, Hypothesis Statement, or Objectives
  5. Methods or Process
  6. Results or Evidence of Impact
  7. Conclusion, Recommendation, or Implication for Practice
  8. Conflict of Interest (if any)
  9. Source of Funding (if any)
Do not include literature citations, tables, or images in the abstract. When using abbreviations, please spell out the full name at first mention and then follow with its abbreviation in parenthesis.
Only one submission per presenter will be considered.


Submission Fee/Word Limit: There is no abstract submission fee. The word limit is 400 words (including items 3 through 7 above).


Abstract Review: Abstracts will be reviewed and rated on each of the following criteria: 1)importance of research question to public health; 2) appropriate- ness of the methods; and 3) implications of the results. Abstracts should be clearly written and intended for a multidisciplinary audience.  Top rated abstracts may be invited for oral presentations. Paid conference registration is required for all presenters whose abstracts are accepted for either oral or poster presentations.
