New summer program
offered from June 20 - July 15, 2016 to help students
prepare for the revised MCAT, build clinical experience with formal shadowing and medical simulation center activities, and practice essential interviewing skills - The UVM College of Medicine Summer Medical School Prep Program (learn.uvm.edu/summermed).
This program is being offered by me and a teaching team of accomplished College of Medicine faculty. However, your students will not just learn from faculty, they also will be assigned to a current Medical Student who will serve as their personal mentor and can provide them with important information on how to gain acceptance to and be successful in medical school today.
Applying what they learn in this program
should help your students stand-out
as applicants and succeed as a medical students.
During the program students
will perform virtual
medical procedures in UVM's state-of-the-art medical
simulation center and watch a live surgery.
Students will also practice for medical school interviews through mock multiple
mini interviews (MMls)
with feedback to improve interview
skills. In addition, to support their application to medical school,
students who successfully complete the program will be given a detailed personalized assessment document rather than the typical certificate of completion they might receive
for completing an intensive program
like this.
This program is for pre-med
students who are getting ready to take the MCAT and apply to medical school. We expect that most participants will have completed
their first three years of undergraduate pre-med coursework before starting the program this summer.
Recent graduates
are welcome to participate as long as they have completed the standard pre-med course requirements.
If
this program sounds
like a good fit for any of your students, then I encourage you to match
qualified students with this opportunity and help them register immediately because seats are limited.
You can learn more and
register students online at learn.uvm.edu/summermed.
