Medical School for International Health

As March begins and spring approaches, some students may still be undecided about applying to medical school, they may have not been accepted at their top choice, or they may potentially be considering a gap year.  At the Medical School for International Health we do accept students through May, so even if students are taking the MCAT in April, they can still apply.  The application is available on our website at msih.net, or Click here to download.  Should you or a student have any questions, please email msihadmissions@post.bgu.ac.il

Why choose the MSIH?  The MSIH's focus on global health is unique.  As Dr. Bram Wispelwey, MSIH class of 2014 explains, "Everyone learns the same fundamentals in medical school, more or less. From there it’s the intangibles of experience that shape you as a person and as a physician."  Dr. Wispelwey, who is a current resident in Internal Medicine and Global Health Equity at Brigham and Women's Hospital and an MPH candidate at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, adds that the "MSIH is a special place to be right now. Many of these hot issues in the U.S. are present in similar but importantly distinct forms in Be’er Sheva, and training there can give you ‘new eyes’ on your return to the U.S. or Canada."

The Medical School for International Health (MSIH) is the only four-year North American-style medical school that incorporates global health coursework into all four years of the medical school curriculum.  The MSIH is an English-language track at Ben-Gurion University and has been affiliated with Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons since inception.  MSIH students spend three years in Beer-Sheva, Israel, then go on to conduct fourth-year clinical electives at Columbia University Medical Center, and at other institutions in the United States and Canada.
