Medical Humanities MS Program at the University of Rochester
Medicine is more than science. It's an art.
Do you know what exceptional health professionals have in common?
They see their patient as a person - not just an illness. They build strong relationships with their patients. They attend to the patient's unique values and beliefs. They act with compassion.
The Medical Humanities MS program at the University of Rochester teaches these skills and explores current social, cultural and ethical issues in healthcare.
In our program, students learn from practicing clinicians and scholars about the culture and practice of medicine, discuss medical cases, and consider current social and cultural and ethical issues that impact patients, families and communities.
The Medical Humanities program teaches how to:
- Create positive therapeutic relationships
- Understand the patient experience
- Communicate and collaborate with patients, families and colleagues
- Attend to the social, economic, cultural and spiritual needs of patients
- Apply ethics, creativity and critical thinking to patient care
The program provides skills and training for:
- Current and future medical professionals
- Humanities professionals
- Healthcare lawyers, administrators and leaders
- Future professors
Sincerely,
