University of Exeter’s International Summer School program
University of Exeter’s International Summer School
programme which includes 2 courses which may be of interest to students
considering a career in the health professions and who wish to study
abroad during
the summer:
The IAPT
programme is a mental health programme which Exeter is helping to
deliver in partnership with the National Health Service to deliver
psychological therapies to those suffering from mental
health disorders. The module will enable students to understand these
demands, the different ways in which psychological therapies can be
delivered as well as critically evaluate service delivery models and
their effectiveness.
Preventive
Medicine: Exercise and the Environment offers a detailed exploration
into preventive health issues related to physical activity and the
environment. Drawing upon research in these topics
at Exeter, students will gain a deeper understanding of the
science behind the interaction of physical activity and the environment
on health across the lifespan.
These courses will enable students to gain
experience in these subjects as well as showing interest and commitment
to their chosen profession for their graduate school applications. The
summer school is also an opportunity to study with
students from around the world as we attract students from over 30
countries to the programme.
Each course is accredited at 15 credits and 7.5
ECTS, the equivalent to a semester module and is taught by Exeter
faculty. Outside of classes students stay on campus and take part in a
lively social programme.
Full details of the programme are available online:

The fee for tuition, accommodation plus meals and the social programme ranges from £2,320 and £2,570. We also have a number of £500 scholarships for students attending either of these programmes
(providing of course that they meet our entry requirements).
Very interesting to hear the variety of thoughts on this topic. It’s important to continually look at how we can all increase our physical activity. Not only is it a crucial part to maintaining a healthy lifestyle, but it holds so many benefits for our mental health. Both should be prioritise, so if there’s a way of making this easier or more accessible, such as providing access to outdoor natural environments, then it’s definitely worth looking into.
