A medical school that focuses on global health Accepting Applications for the Entering Class of 2017

Dear Advisor,

Why is global health education and training important for physicians?  According to a recent article in U.S. News,  "in an interconnected world, a good medical school education includes courses on global health issues and ideally allows students to do service learning projects in countries that lack adequate medical care."  The article also notes that "global health programs in medical schools address both health concerns that plague all nations, such as obesity, diabetes, and sexual transmitted diseases, and those prevalent in particular regions, such as tropical diseases and water-borne illnesses."

The Medical School for International Health (MSIH) has a unique focus on global health.
The MSIH is the only four-year North American-style medical school that incorporates global health coursework into all years of the medical school curriculum.  The MSIH is an English-language track at Ben-Gurion University and has been affiliated with Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons since inception.  In the first two years of study at the MSIH, students complete a year long course on Clinical and Global Medicine, take global health modules and participate in weekly global health and medicine clinic days.  In year III, students complete clinical clerkships at Soroka Medical Center, as well as participate in interactive Cross Cultural Communication workshops.  Fourth-year clinical electives take place at Columbia University Medical Center, as well as other hospital locations in North America including Mt. Sinai, the University of Pennsylvania, Hofstra-LIJ and the University of Kentucky.  There is a New York based electives coordinator who supports students who seek electives at other institutions as well. Fourth-year students complete an eight-week clerkship with an underserved community at approved sites throughout the world. The 2016 U.S. residency match rate was 95%.

ADMISSIONS:  As the spring semester is well underway, some students may still be undecided about applying to medical school or they may potentially be considering a gap year.  At the Medical School for International Health (MSIH) we do accept applications through early May, so even if students are taking the MCAT in March or April, they can still apply.  The application is available on our website at msih.net,

WEBINAR:  We will be hosting an upcoming informational webinar for any students interested in learning more about the MSIH. Kindly forward this email or link to any students who may be interested.  I have included the link below to register.
