Baltimore Health Immersion Summer Program (May 21-June 23)
I am writing to share about Loyola University
Maryland’s pre-health summer program, Baltimore Health Immersion. I am
very proud of the ways in which it engages in urban health issues and
psychology of health. Please feel free to forward
this e-mail and the attached flyer to your pre-health students. We
welcome visiting students! Applications are due on
Sunday, February 26.
Here are some highlights of Baltimore Health Immersion Program (May 21 –June 23, 2017)
- The program focuses on psychological and social foundations of health through two courses (six credits), forty-hour service-learning internship, and other immersion opportunities.
- Dr. Jeffrey Lating’s course, Introduction to Health Psychology, offers a review of assessment procedures, adherence and evaluation in health care, and health psychology interventions. My course, Urban Health and Faith, examines the impact of religious traditions and faith communities on management of urban health.
- We have a network of placements in downtown Baltimore, including Kennedy Krieger Institute, Health Care for the Homeless, Bon Secours Hospital, and Powell Recovery Center.
- Visiting students are warmly welcome.
- Housing is available. Breakfast and lunches on teaching days as well as books are included.
- The program’s website has more information on the courses, cost and benefits, and application. See:

This will be our third year; the first two cohorts
of students have been simply exceptional. Last year we welcomed students
from eight universities, and we have continued to strengthen our
internship partnerships to include over ten health
care organizations. We are also proud to welcome Dr. Stephanie
Regenold, MD/MPH, to our team. She will lead internship reflections with
students. As a former medical advisor at Baltimore City’s maternal
health programs and current Associate Director at our
Health Center, she is uniquely qualified to engage students in
meaningful discussions about their internships.
I have enclosed the program flyer. I would be pleased to answer any questions you or your students may have. My e-mail is
mlehmijokigardn@loyola.edu. My phone numbers are 410-617-2218.
Thank you for your time and interest. All the best with the new academic year!
