Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine Enrichment Summer Program - 2017

Want to be a veterinarian?
A Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine degree opens doors to numerous, challenging career pathways. Graduates can practice in the field of food animal production, become a companion animal veterinarian, conduct biomedical research, serve in the government to regulate human and animal food safety, or choose from a number of other professions and industries.
The Enrichment Summer Program (ESP), sponsored by the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine, provides academic advancement and career knowledge for undergraduate students interested in veterinary medicine. There is no fee to participate in this program.
ESP is open to undergraduate students who have selected veterinary medicine as a career choice and plan to apply to a professional program in summer of 2017 for entrance in fall of 2018. The program focuses on developing well-qualified prospective students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Consideration is given to residents of Michigan who have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Enrichment Summer Program
What does the program involve?
Participants will experience a robust didactic curriculum, clinical learning opportunities and leadership development sessions.
Content areas including physiology, histopathology, microbiology, and anatomy. Clinical experiences include emergency medicine, oncology, internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, and diagnostic ultrasound. Leadership development includes financial health, work-life balance, written and verbal communication, and career development.
What are the expectations of the participants?

Commitment to all assigned program components/offerings

Respect for self, others, ESP, and the College

Professional conduct and attire at all times

Prepared to apply in summer of 2017 for entrance in fall of 2018

Completion of at least 50 percent of required prerequisites by June 4, 2017
When is the program?
The program runs from June 4 through June 23, 2017. ESP Orientation will be held on Sunday, June 4, in the late afternoon.
