Application Requirements & Qualifications
Application materials must include a completed online
application, a resume, unofficial transcript, and two letters of
academic recommendation. A single pdf containing the resume, unofficial
transcript, and essay should be uploaded to the online application.
Letters of recommendation should be sent directly from the
letter writers on school letterhead. All letters of recommendation

Application Process
All application materials must be submitted and received by January 22th, 2018.
Exceptional applicants may be asked to schedule a brief phone interview
in mid-February. All applicants will be notified regarding acceptance
by the end of March.

Program Dates
Each applicant is required to make at least a full-time (approximately 9am-5pm), eight-week commitment from June 4th to July 27th, with a two day mandatory orientation on May 31st and June 1st.

Program Description
Hackensack University Medical Center offers an 8 week
research volunteer position during the summer to 8-10 outstanding
undergraduate, post baccalaureate, and first year medical students
interested in gaining clinical research experience.
The 2018 Summer Clinical Research Volunteer Program in
Pediatrics at Hackensack University Medical Center offers pre-medical
and medical students the opportunity to work closely with a faculty
mentor on one or more research projects related their specific
sub-specialty. The primary focus of this position is clinical research
and writing. Each departmental track of the program will grant admission
to 2-3 students. These students will have the unique opportunity to
join a faculty member in completing an ongoing research project and/or
create a new project proposal with his or her mentor's guidance.
Students will also gain valuable insight into the publication process,
including opportunities to participate in co-authorship of research
projects in peer-reviewed pediatric journals.
While participating in the program, students will be invited
and encouraged to attend pediatric grand rounds as well as other
lectures of interest available through the Department of Pediatrics at
The Joseph M. Sanzari Children's Hospital. The program also includes a
dedicated lecture series on the basics of clinical research including a
background on evidence based medicine, ethics of research and
fundamental statistics. There will also be opportunities for students to
shadow clinical staff members throughout the program to provide
clinical exposure.
Students who are interested in science, medicine, and
clinical research are encouraged to apply to the 2018 Summer Clinical
Research Volunteer program. The program is open to undergraduates, post
baccalaureate and medical students. The ideal applicant is a student
aspiring to attend a graduate program in medicine with a strong academic
record and an interest in pediatrics.
