Free Screening and Discussion of PBS Program "Being Mortal"
You’re invited to a free screening and discussion of the PBS program “Being Mortal” onWednesday, September 7, 2016, 6:00pm at Campus Theatre or Thursday, October 20, 2016, 6:00 pm at Isaac’s Auditorium, Susquehanna University. You will be part of a national dialog taking place in our community that helps clinicians address difficult end-of-life decisions.
“Being Mortal” investigates the practice of caring for the dying and explores the relationships between patients and providers. It follows Dr. Atul Gawande as he speaks with doctors about talking to patients as they near the end of their lives. When Dr. Gawande’s own father gets cancer, his search for answers about how to best care for the dying becomes a personal quest.
“We (clinicians) are afraid of talking to patients about the problems,” of aging and dying, says Dr. Gawande in the film. “We aren’t particularly good at handling people going through the last phases of life.”
